A very moving story. I hope I can meet this man someday and rub one of his pig's bellies. Honestly, I'm crying right now. Thanks for sharing.

Wow.

So I think there is a great story in here. However the incredibly privileged tone of the author is so distracting. This kind of elitism, though eventually the author begins to see some "decency" in the "grunting" pig farmer, is famous for animal right folks.

As an animal rights activist and long time vegan let's not live up to out stereotypes.

Thank you so much for this wonderful story. I've just been made aware of it by Maggie a member of the Volentia vegan website.. Every experience good or bad is a gift, an opportunity to learn, gain insight and evolve. Both you and the pig farmer came together at exactly the right moment in time and were truly blessed!

John, my brother-in-law,Raman, sent me your book years ago, and i keep it close by me...and ALWAYS carry it in my heart.I loved the story of the man passing the pig-stye, and pausing to visit with the pig...the visits meent more to the pig than the apples or berries offered. If only everyone recognized the precious pigs as loving, smart, playful beings...and not food! The way they are forced to suffer is unbearable! Thanks for sharing.

A friend recommended your site and to read this story. It is very touching and sad in so many ways. People raise animals because that is something they learn to do. It is a job, it pays the bills. They disconnect like the man in your story.

I hope you continue to share your stories as they touch peoples hearts. I have committed to a vegan lifestyle and these types of stories remind us of one of the deeper reasons why we choose this lifestyle.

May we each live by example,

Kind regards,

Thank you John,

I have just been directed here after commenting on the fact that as a compassionate person, you should not judge. You can not know why a person is in a situation and what their actual feelings are. I think the overwhelming majority of people are good people but some may just be lost. Your story highlights this.

The pig farmer has awe-inspiring courage. To take what is a risk for him to do the right thing and walk away from the only industry he has known with no insurance that he will be okay is admirable.
I'm happy you have published this.

It's a great story John. Your book Diet For A New America had such a huge impact on me when I read it 20 years ago. Thanks for all of the work you do.

Wow, what a wonderful story. IMO, it's not even impt whether it really happened or not, just the thoughts and positive passion expressed helps me believe that there is still hope for us all, and it is such a healing thought that we all have that potential to heal and change for the better. Bless you, John, for this story and all the powerful healing efforts from your abundant spirit (btw, reading your Diet for a New America over 20 years ago was the "tipping point" in my life that led me to become vegetarian and eventually vegan!)

It's so touched.I become a Vegetarian after I watched the shocking video and I don't watch them anymore actually I can't watch them. I've been praying for forgiveness that I was such a careless meat eater and asking God do something about those vicious animal abusers. I understand whole world can't become Vegetarian, Ok, fine but why they torture those animals? How they can do that? I start crying again while I'm typing. What kind of human beings can enjoy tortured and killed animals like that? They are such in pain, bleeding like river. Can you imagine how much pain they are having to get killed? I'm thinking about this matter countless everyday and I really think those vicious people will get punish and go to Hell. They don't know fear of God and what they getting end of their life. I'm sure 'pig farmer' was in constant guilty and I don't think he killed his pigs end of torturing for excitement even though he kept them in disgusting situation which is he couldn't help it. I'm not just saying that now because look at him now I'm so proud of him. How many people can do that? See? That shows us without look. I learn one more thing if I ever run into those animal factory people I will be patience before I judge them and explode. I will try to look at their human side and try to give them to think( all living creatures knows what is wrong and right in their heart)because I got into fights few times with callous people( about dogs and cats)and I will try to talk to them and explain as much as I can. That way saves both life( human being and animals)! Thank you very much for your writing it made me little breath and I hope we will meet more of precious "pig farmer' everyday and I will try to be a part of it by all means. Thank you, again!
